The Ronald McDonald House Glasgow provides families with a safe space close to hospitals to ensure they can be close to their children during their stay. Glasgow is home to the Royal Hospital for Children. This is the centre for all kinds of complex and important treatments, including cardiac surgery, bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, and oncology.

Because the Royal Hospital provides these complex procedures, many children in critical or poor health and in need of emergency treatment come to the city for help.

Often these stays can last long – sometimes weeks or even months at a time. For many people, there’s a huge amount of stress and upset involved – especially when a loved one is ill. Many families would have to journey hundreds of miles, back and forth, between their homes and Glasgow if they wished to be with their loved ones. Even if they could easily make the trip, the distance, and absences from their children can be unbearable.

The Ronald McDonald House Glasgow provides a comfortable environment for families to stay while their loved ones receive treatment. The House is close to the Hospital, being only minutes away. This removes the need for long-distance journeys during an often-difficult time. It ensures families are close to their children at the most important time.

The Ronald McDonald House is financed through the support of donors. All the work the House does is reliant on the support of donors.

What Ronald McDonald House Does

The Ronald McDonald House Glasgow provides families with a comfortable, caring environment – and they’ve done this for over 25 years, providing a 24-hour service 5 days a week to families from all over Britain and beyond. The house is equipped with over 31 bedrooms.

The house has always been at 95% to 100% capacity. Stays vary for every family – the average is 25; the longest was over 3 years. This gives a good idea of how long a family can wait while their child is treated.

The house provides a homely environment for families dealing with an incredibly difficult time. The aim is to try and reduce the incredible amount of stress that families feel during such an incredibly difficult time. Separation from sick or ill children is incredibly difficult to have to experience.

The work of the house relieves the stress families feel. By providing a comforting environment, accommodation, and a place to relax and live, families can focus on the treatment their young loved one is receiving.

Rooms an en-suite, while the house also provides a spacious shared kitchen, dining area, and plenty of facilities for both parents and children. This includes a library, lounges, garden, and private parking. Furthermore, bedrooms are linked by phone to the wards of their children, ensuring that (no matter what time of the day), they can be contacted.

The functions of the house are incredibly important for families dealing with loved ones suffering often severe health issues.
