The spirit of Glasgow shone brightly once again this year as Pest Solutions proudly participated in the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Light Up a Life Appeal for a remarkable fourth consecutive year.
On Thursday 27th November, our team gathered, buckets in hand, at Glasgow Central Station to help collect some cash for the fantastic PPOW, a charity who do some incredible work supporting young people and their families in incredibly difficult circumstances.
Thanks to the incredible kindness of Glasgow’s community, we collected an outstanding £500.77 on the day, with each and every penny going towards the incredibly important work of this vital local charity.
The warmth and generosity displayed throughout the day reinforced everything we love about our Glasgow community. Even amidst ongoing economic challenges, people continued to open their hearts and wallets to support a cause that touches so many lives across the city.
A heartfelt thank you to every single person who stopped to donate, share a smile, or simply spread festive cheer. Your contributions make an immeasurable difference to families facing the most challenging of circumstances.
Why the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Matters So Much
For those unfamiliar with this exceptional organisation, the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice has been a beacon of compassionate care in Glasgow since 1980, providing world-class palliative support to individuals living with life-limiting conditions and their families.
What sets this hospice apart is their pioneering approach to care. As Scotland’s first facility to adopt the Scandinavian Sengetun model of palliative care, they’ve created an environment where dignity, wellbeing, and living each day to its fullest are paramount.
Located in their purpose-built facility at Bellahouston Park since 2018, the hospice offers so much more than medical treatment. The dedicated team provides holistic support that encompasses physical care, emotional counselling, spiritual guidance, and family support services.
The staff’s expertise and compassion have earned the hospice international recognition as one of the finest care facilities in the world. Every patient is treated not as a case number, but as a valued individual deserving of respect, comfort, and the highest quality of life possible.
The unfortunate reality is that whilst the NHS provides partial funding, the hospice requires approximately £3 million annually in charitable donations to maintain their exceptional standard of care.
Every pound raised through campaigns like Light Up a Life directly funds the services that make such a profound difference to our community and Pest Solutions are committed to doing our very small part in ensuring these campaigns are a success.
Pest Solutions’ Connections with PPOW
Over the past four years, the connections between Pest Solutions and the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice have grown significantly.
Several members of our team now have family members who volunteer regularly at the hospice, giving us firsthand insight into the incredible work happening there every single day.
We’ve participated in various initiatives, including the 2023 Warehouse Challenge, where we helped sort donated items for distribution to charity shops throughout Glasgow.
What draws us back year after year is witnessing the tangible impact of community support.
As a Glasgow-based business, we believe strongly in supporting our local community, and few causes are more deserving than the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice. We’re committed to continuing this partnership long into the future and look forward to many more years of supporting their vital work.
The Impact of Your Generosity
It’s easy to think of charitable donations as abstract numbers, but at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, every contribution translates into real, meaningful support for patients and families. Here’s what your generosity can accomplish:
£10 provides a full day’s meals for one patient, lovingly prepared by the hospice’s dedicated catering team.
£40 covers a therapeutic art session that enhances wellbeing and provides creative expression during difficult times.
£60 funds a rehabilitation session, helping patients maintain their independence and quality of life for as long as possible.
£60 also provides bereavement counselling for families who’ve recently lost a loved one, offering crucial support during the grieving process.
£270 covers a full day of specialist community nursing care, allowing patients to receive expert support in the comfort of their own homes.
£840 represents the daily cost of maintaining an inpatient bed within the hospice unit.
When you look at it this way, every single coin dropped into our collection buckets translates into comfort, dignity, and compassionate care for someone in our community when they need it most.
