Pest Solutions Team take on Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Warehouse Challenge. On March 28th, 2023, Pest Solutions staff donned their sorting hats and took on the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice warehouse challenge.

Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Warehouse Challenge - Pest Solutions

As one of our partner charities, we regularly send some of our team members to help out with the sorting of items donated to the charity before they are sent to be sold in the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Shops in order to raise much-needed funds to help keep the great work of the hospice going.

This initiative was started by the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice to encourage businesses to send teams to help them sort through their donations as efficiently as possible so they can be sold in shops across the Glasgow area.

All proceeds from the donation sales then go directly to funding the incredible patient care provided at the hospice to those with terminal and life-limiting conditions and their families.

This is not only an excellent opportunity for us to give back to the community that has been at the heart of our journey since the very beginning but also a great team-building opportunity for our staff to work together in a very different environment to their day-to-day jobs.

This is the third time that we have sent a team from Pest Solutions to assist Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice with their donation sorting efforts, and each time our staff have come back with a smile on their faces.

Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Warehouse Challenge To Raise Funds

Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice runs their Warehouse Challenge days on a regular basis, and we are fully committed to participating every few months as part as our ongoing commitment to supporting fantastic local charities do what they do so incredibly well.

Giving back to our local community is really important to the entire team here at Pest Solutions. For this reason in 2022 we introduced a “Charity Volunteer Day” for all of our team where they receive an extra paid day off in order to volunteer for a good cause such as this.

Our team have warmly received this great opportunity to give back.

Why Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice?

There are so many fantastic charities in the Glasgow area that it is not always easy to decide which ones to support as part of our community fundraising efforts.

In the last year alone, we have participated in events raising money for Dementia UK, Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS), and Cosgrove Care, as well as fundraising on behalf of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice during their Light Up a Life Appeal.

One charity that we will always support whenever we can, however, is Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice, whose impact in the Glasgow community really is second to none.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice is a purpose build end-of-life care facility located in Bellahouston Park. From this facility, a team of wonderful nurses, social workers, counsellors, and more, provide patients with life shortening conditions with the respect and dignity that they deserve.

The hospice is an incredible place where those who have been diagnosed with conditions including cancer, heart failure, lung disease, and neurological conditions receive the specialist care they need, with quality of life, no matter how long left, the utmost priority at all times.

The services that are provided both at the clinic include social work, counselling, and both emotional and spiritual support, making sure that patients and their families have everything that they need.

The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice were the very first hospice in Scotland to use the Scandinavian model of palliative care, focussing on the well-being of the patient and delivering the highest possible standard of compassionate care.

What Is Involved In Warehouse Volunteering?

Upon attending the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice retail warehouse, our team were set to work sorting new donated and recycled stock to ensure that only quality items reach the shelves of their charity shops located throughout Scotland.

Warehouse volunteering is a critical part of the hospice’s fundraising efforts, facilitating a consistent supply of stock for the retail stores that fund a major portion of the hospice’s operations and are critical to their continued success.

Our team spent the day getting stuck in at the warehouse, but the hospice offers very flexible volunteering hours so why not get in touch and find out how you could get involved?

Why Did We Get Involved?

As a business that was born and has grown in Glasgow over the years, we feel a true affiliation with the community and are fully committed to supporting local causes as part of our corporate responsibility pledge.

We have volunteered on behalf of the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice on several occasions now, including fundraising at Glasgow Central Station last Christmas as part of their Christmas lights collection campaign and event that saw the hospice raise over £1,000 for their cause.

When we were given the opportunity to assist with donation sorting at the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice warehouse, we jumped at the chance and received glowing feedback about the experience from each member of the teams that we have sent along ever since.

Our staff throw themselves into every challenge they face in their daily lives and it was no surprise to us that they used the experience to become closer as a team as well as giving back to the local community.

If all else fails, they now have some great stories to tell their customers next time they are out and about tackling pest problems across the nation!

Get Involved In Supporting PPOW Hospice

We would absolutely encourage any of our fellow local Glasgow businesses who are looking for a great team building activity that makes a genuine difference to the lives of those in need to get involved in the next Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice Warehouse Challenge and we can’t wait to see you there!

If you are unable to make it to one of these events but would still like to get involved and help Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice continue to provide care services to over 1200 patients and families every single year, why not make a donation to their cause https://www.princeandprincessofwaleshospice.org.uk/how-you-can-help/make-a-donation.

One thing you can be sure of is that every single penny of any donation, no matter how large, will be put to the best possible use and go directly towards helping those in the community who deserve it the most.

If you would like to participate in a fundraising event or volunteer but Warehouse sorting isn’t really up your alley, visit https://www.princeandprincessofwaleshospice.org.uk/events for more information about upcoming events you could get involved in.

Every year Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice must raise over £3 million simply to keep their doors open and whilst some of this funding does come via the NHS, a significant portion is reliant on the generosity of the wonderful Glasgow public.
