If you thought the World cup was the biggest competition happening this winter, think again. This week was the annual BPCA Christmas Charity Quiz and our Pest Solutions team of boffins fought off the competition to bring home the glory of 1st place.
The event was held over zoom to raise money for Dementia UK, a fantastic charity that we were proud to help support both through this event and throughout the year.
Our crack team of Graeme Kirkpatrick, Rebekah Simpson, Stefan Polatajko, and Kevin Pugh successfully negotiated several rounds of both Pest Control-related and Christmas-themed questions to win the top prize. They kindly decided to donate their winning prize, a £100 amazon voucher to the charity, alongside the entry fee that each team was required to donate in order to enter the event.

The BPCA has been a proud supporter of charity causes since its foundation, and Dementia UK was chosen as their charity of the year for 2022, via a member poll.
Alongside the Christmas quiz, BPCA members have been fundraising throughout the year on behalf of the charity and over £1,680 has currently been raised via the just giving page. Some of the more demanding of the fundraising efforts made by BPCA staff include a team walking 2750 miles across the month of March, and others running 100 km each over the course of May.
As a member of the BPCA, and as a company that is always looking for ways to make a difference whenever possible to the causes that matter most, we were delighted to get involved with this event.
Dementia UK are the UK’s specialist dementia nurse charity, providing life-changing support and care for families who are affected by dementia. They help those with dementia to stay independent for as long as possible and provide invaluable support for carers.
Their nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, are specialists in all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, and have both the knowledge solve problems and the time to listen to the concerns of families affected.
The standard of the services provided by Dementia UK nurses is incredible, and they are committed to providing the same quality of care as any of us would want for our loved ones.
What is dementia?
Dementia refers to a range of progressive diseases that stop a person’s brain cells from working as they should. This can lead to difficulties thinking, remembering, and speaking, with common early symptoms being confusion and memory loss.
Dementia is most common in those over the age of 65 but can affect a person of any age.
Despite the term dementia being used as an umbrella term, there are over 200 subtypes of dementia, each with their own challenges, symptoms, and management strategies.
Discovering that you, or a loved one has any form of dementia can be overwhelming, and Dementia UK are committed to helping families throughout this challenging time. They help those affected by explaining all the facts associated with the particular form of dementia that they are dealing with, as well as providing ongoing support to those who need it most
By 2025, Dementia UK estimate that over one million people in the UK will have a dementia diagnosis and almost all of us have a personal experience with someone living with the condition.
Anyone who has watched someone go through the various stages of Alzheimer’s disease or any other form of dementia knows just how difficult it is for everyone involved.
Dementia UK provide life changing support on a daily basis, only possible thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors across the world. Christmas can be an incredibly stressful time financially but if you can spare anything, no matter how little or how much, there really is no better cause to support.
At Pest Solutions we will continue to join our fellow BPCA members in supporting charitable causes by getting involved in event such as the Christmas Charity Quiz, alongside our own commitments to helping community projects right here in Glasgow.
This event run by the wonderful BCPA professional/celebrity hosts, John and Nataly, was a great success, and we are already looking forward to returning next year and attempting to retain our quizzing crown!
