Edible Dormouse

The Edible Dormouse (Glis glis) is found throughout much of Western Europe, although it is absent from Portugal, Scandinavia, and most of Spain and the Britain, as well as from the northern coasts of France and Germany.

The Key Facts Edible Dormouse…

Edible Dormouse (Glis glis) - Pest Solutions - Pest ControlEdible Dormouse (Glis glis) were accidentally introduced to the town of Tring in England through an escape from Lionel Walter Rothschild’s private collection. As a result, the British Edible Dormouse population, now 10,000 strong, is concentrated in a 200-square-mile triangle between Beaconsfield, Aylesbury and Luton. They are not present in Scotland.

They prefer mature woodlands where they inhabit tree holes and will build tree nests similar to Squirrel dreys. Edible Dormouse (Glis glis) also readily enter lofts of houses and garden sheds where they can cause considerable damage and nuisance.
